Ezra Lee

Ezra Lee grew up in Tamworth NSW & at an early age began playing boogie woogie & blues piano. He used his father, Ed Matzenik’s record collection to teach himself boogie woogie & barrelhouse piano styles. He obtained blues lessons from Dr John & Johnny B Goode Johnson when they toured Australia. His piano style within these genres.

At 14 Ezra joined Johnny Green’s Blues Cowboys & toured with them for 6 years. In 2009 the Melbourne Rockabilly label Preston Records released 2 Ezra Lee albums in Feb Out of the Valley & Apr You Can’t Stop a Freight Train.

Ezra’s career highlights include:

  • May 2010 – travelled to Barcelona Spain to perform at the Screamin’ Rockabilly Festival to support the Original Bill Haley’s Comets.
  • Nov & Dec 2010 – performed in a musical theatre show, The Ultimate Rock’n’Roll Jam Session with James Blundell, Nick Barker, Dave Larkin & Doug Parkinson.
  • April 2011 – performed at Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Festival supporting Jerry Lee Lewis.
  • 2012 – recorded Ca$hed Up n Crazy then performed in the UK & Europe & recorded another album Coal Fired Man in Berlin for Rhythm Bomb Records.
  • 2013 – Ezra & his band opened & were the backing band for the “Queen of Rockabilly” Wanda Jackson on her 6 date Australian tour.
  • 2014 – recorded the album Motor Head Baby

Ezra is now currently performing as the Ezra Lee Trio with Ray West on Double Bass & Eddie Fury on drums.
