Ivan Zar

Ivan Zar

Ivan was drawn to the blues at an early age and taught himself the harmonica and Delta Blues style guitar. In 1968 he formed his first band ‘King Biscuit Co’ and started writing his own songs, then in 1975 he formed the now legendary band ‘The Elks’ which introduced him to the Chicago style of Blues. The Elks garnered mainstream acclaim Australia wide and went on to support B.B. King, Rory Gallagher, Ike & Tina Turner and Joe Cocker.

Expect lots of Mississippi Delta style blues, mostly own compositions with traditional blues from the likes of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, R.L. Burnside, Bukka White, Fred McDowell, Robert Johnson and John Lee Hooker.

Ivan has graced the stages of Goulburn Blues Festival • Port Fairy Folk Festival • Kakadu Groove Festival • Mahbilil Festival Jabiru … and every Blues at Bridgetown Festival since 1993 except four!
