West Coast Blues Club

West Coast Blues Club

The West Coast Blues Club burst onto the scene with its opening night on 1st August 2001, and over a decade later is still going strong. The club is dedicated to keeping Blues music alive – by providing a friendly welcoming atmosphere to all past, present and future members as well as Blues music lovers.

The club has a commitment to providing a venue for like-minded musicians to connect and interact. Every month the club has a different top-class house band – covering a wide range of music from old-school blues – to roots and alternative styles. Every jam has something to offer both players and the public. It’s a load of fun for all.

The club’s base is at the Fremantle Navy Club. It’s a great venue UPSTAIRS on the corner of 64 High Street and Pakenham Street, Fremantle. There’s a huge stage, a fantastic in-house professionally-managed PA system and the drinks and food prices are very reasonable. 🙂

Nick Leach • President – Has always been a Blues fan, became the club webmaster years ago and is now El Presidente. Plays guitar, bass and sings the odd vocals.

Tim Harris • Vice President/Stage Manager – Good ol’ reliable Tim. Always ready to get up and boogie, a regular Jammer – on guitar and vocals. Passionate about The Blues, keen to share it and to help new Jammers.

Julie Brooker • Secretary and Administrator of all things complicated. 🙂 Plus, she does a fantastic job “on the door” and updating our Facebook page and mailing list.

Plus, a great bunch of many unsung heroes, including John Smoker, Greg Lewis, Teresa Scerri, Kerry B Ryan and Greg Rowse, just to name a few.

Mixing rare blues gems with funky original numbers by the main songwriter John Smoker, The Midnight Jammers have created a fresh new sound of funky riff-based blues which just makes you want to jump and jive.

With Al Fulurija laying down a solid funky back-beat, Ian Parkin locking in the pulsing bass grooves, Phil Pearson adding searing solos on his old Strat, plus jumpin’ John (the Dr) Smoker singing and growling his way across the stage and wailing into his harps – you are bound for a rockin’ good time as The Midnight Jammers roll you down the tracks through their back-catalogue of blues and energetic original tunes.

These guys have been playing the blues scene in Perth for many years in various line-ups, but since the formation of The Midnight Jammers in 2016 they regularly shake up the West Coast Blues Club and the Perth Blues Club.
